HGCA Auction Rules

1.     Only HGCA members may bring only fish-related items (to be referred to as item) for auction at every meeting unless notified otherwise by HGCA Executive Board . Anyone (member or non member) may bid on any item at any HGCA auction.

  1. The item must be ready to take home.  For instance, plants and fish are to be bagged ahead of time by the seller.
  2. The amount the seller wishes to obtain from the auction for an item is to be called the base price, or base amount.  The base price is to be determined by the seller.
  3. The minimum base price is $10.00  (One may group more than one item.  E.g. One may bag several plants or fish to be sold together.)
  4. The upset price (and minimum bid) for an item is set to be equal to 1.10 times the base price, rounded to the nearest whole dollar.
  5. The minimum bid increment for an item

(a)  will be determined by the HGCA auctioneer;

(b)  will not be less than $1.00;

(c) may be higher than $1.00, but in any case, will be in whole dollars and higher priced items may require larger bid increments.

  1. The HGCA auctioneer will be determined by the HGCA executive board composed of the President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary of HGCA.
  2. If an item is auctioned off:

(a)  The item is to be sold at the upset price (minimum bid) or higher;

(b)  The seller is to receive the base price;

(c)  HGCA is to receive any amounts above the base price.

10.   HGCA does not guarantee the sale or auction of any item.  If an item is not sold or auctioned off, the seller will remove the item.  Failure to take any item not sold or auctioned may result in consequences to be determined by the executive board of HGCA.  The consequences may include that the member may be banned from selling in any future HGCA auctions.
